TRACTION EU Opera Project
A major EU Horizon 2020 project using VR to democratize opera, enabling communities across Europe to co-create immersive performances.
The Problem
Traditional opera can often feel inaccessible to modern, diverse audiences. The TRACTION project, funded by EU Horizon 2020, sought to democratize the opera experience by leveraging immersive technology to involve communities in the creative process and consumption of opera.
Our Solution
As part of this major European consortium, we helped develop a Co-Creation Stage using VR and web-based tools. This allowed professionals and community members to collaborate on opera productions in real-time, regardless of their physical location, fostering a new era of participatory art.
The Results
The project successfully demonstrated how VR and cloud technologies can bridge the gap between high art and community engagement. The Co-Creation Stage tool was used to produce community-led operas in Ireland, Portugal, and Spain.
