VR for Events

Why VR for Events?

Virtual Reality is an impactful value-add at any conference or event. As VR technology is still relatively new, having a VR headset at your conference stand is a strong pull factor. Plus getting people to spend more time at your stand, and being associated with a positive experience, means they are more likely to do business with you. First impressions are everything.

With the release of the Oculus Quest, it is more cost effective and technically viable to have interactive VR experiences for your event. At Virtual Reality Ireland, we create and curate content for events. Talk to us today about your event or conference needs. We help with the choice of content, the devices to show it on as well as full support at the event with our experienced facilitation team.

CASE STUDY FOR CARLOW ARTS FESTIVAL:

Overview

Virtual Reality Ireland was invited to partner with Carlow Arts Festival to run the VR strand at their festival in Summer 2019.

See here.

Solution

Camille Donegan was the VR curator for the festival along with Jo Managan, the festival's artistic director. Together they selected several best-in-class VR films to be showcased at the VR Cinema where 10 Oculus Go headsets simultaneously played each film. Key to the design of the VR Cinema was the contextualization of what world the audience were about to step into, and following the viewing of the film, they shared how they found the experience prior to stepping in to the next film in the programme.

We also curated interactive VR experiences for the festival including Immersive VR Educations’ work for the BBC – Berlin Blitz.

The VR strand also included Virtual Graffiti workshops with mural artist Shane Sutton where teenagers were able to spray paint virtual walls to their heart’s content and practice using spray paints on virtual walls with the Kingspray Graffiti VR simulator.

The VR strand also included a session on VR Storytelling ran by Camille Donegan as well as panel discussion with creatives working with Immersive Technologies.

Outcomes

The VR Strand at Carlow Arts Festival was a massive talking point for the attendees and a great technical success for Virtual Reality Ireland with no technical issues the entire weekend.

Problem

Virtual Reality Ireland were brought on board the Audi Dublin International Film Festival 2018 to be the local exhibit producers for the Immersive Stories Conference and Exhibition 2018.

Solution

We looked after the following elements of the exhibition:

  • Testing the curated content across 25 AR and VR devices
  • Working with the ADIFF team on all signage for the exhibition
  • Training of all ADIFF volunteers to be able to run the AR and VR demos seamlessly
  • Liaising with all exhibitors regarding stand requirements
  • Liaising with curator Eoghan Cunneen from ILMxLAB at LucasFilm on all elements of the exhibition
  • Producing the exhibition for both the conference attendees (daytime) and public (evening)
  • Troubleshooting any devices

Outcomes

The Immersive Stories was attended by hundreds of attendees and was ground breaking in terms of the nature of the event and the level of international speakers at the conference part of the event.
